Saturday ACF1k+200 Tournament

June 17th, another saturday...

This is my second tournament for the poker bar tour in the casino. I played before and I busted out early... pretty much the same as my first tournament. I didn't even reach the break!

To begin with, props for the organizers again for another successful tournament. I heard there were like 44 rebuys and 80+ players to begin with.

I show up maybe 45mins early for the tournament and I notice that there are only a couple of players. Not even enough to open up a cash table. How sad is that? SAD! I remember the first ACF Poker Bar tour tourney... an hour and a half before the start of the tournament and about 60 people were already registered and ready to go. What does this say about our poker community... it says we are getting really laxed, it says we have the mentallity of "we don't mind being late cause people will show up late anyhow and the tournament will wait for us". It's a reality. Good poker players have discipline. Now, you tell me, is showing up on time or earlier discipline?

I know some of you also say that patience is another virtue of a good poker player. Yes it is. Too bad I don't have too much of that one!

Now for the tournament... Unlimited re-buy for the 1st 3 rounds.

The tournament starts... I sit in seat 7 table 7, before the tournament a couple of friends say that it is a lucky seat. I agree. Barbie Manila, seat 7-9, and a couple of familiar faces from past games. I know I need to watch Barb really closely.

First couple of hands I fold... then i get a j9 suited... why not, the flop hits j 5 2 rainbow. I bet and I get one caller. Turn - 8, the other player goes all in... I think about it for a long time and I call. I was dominated - she had J10. Lost about 3/4 of my stack. I was already saying, nice at least i got past the 1st break this time around.

A couple of other hands come in and since I am short stacked already, i was getting ready to push. I get K J suited and I push getting two callers. Flopped the nuts straight and I tripple up.

A couple of hands down the road again - I call 9 10 suited and I hit top pair. I push heads up. I get a caller drawing for a flush. Same guy who doubled me up before. I win. I am back in the game again. The table was broken down...

Next table... The Duke seat 2, A familiar face seat 3, Manesh (not sure if that is his name) seat 4, Barb to my left and some more familiar faces...

For some reason, my stack just dwindled down and I was in a hand with the Duke... i hit middle pair and the pot was big enough for me to call any bet. I do...

FLOP - A J 3 rainbow

Turn - K

River - blank...

The Duke protecting his A with a big bet on the flop... me stupidly calling with mid pair with a K kicker. Super lucky. Well, that was my main strategy to begin with... get lucky! Ha, ha!

After that I was on fire... making my stack rise to 14k then dinner break. Looking around I saw that Mario (The Director) had a huge stack. After dinner break 3 tables left about 24 players...

After a couple of hands or so, final two table... then final table.

Stack

1st - Hat guy (forgot his name) 30+k chips
2nd - yours truly 20+k
other players in the game, george, Barb, Brian, Manesh, Eric, Mario, One guy and Kit.

1st three hands 3 guys were out. Then another two, then one more.

This I have to write... 5 players remaining.

3 gets involved in a pot. Super big stack, medium stack and super short.

Pre flop the super short stack goes all in.

Disclosure

Telling another person what to do is totally illegal, collusion is illegal! Now if independently two players happen to do what they want on their own then that is not collusion.

Ok - here it is...

Flop J 2 8, both players check
Turn A, Super big stack goes all in. Medium stack folds
River 6, (medium stack says he had pocket 6's)

Winner of the hand, super small stack. Big stack was bluffing. His reason - he said that he rather have a filipino win. Which I can admire if it was something significant but not poker! You want to move up the money ladder in poker not want another "filipino" to win. Maybe there was more to it than that but... anyhow... next couple of hands the super big stack busts out 5th place.

Moral of the story - you figure it out!

Anyhow - finally final 4

Brian 4th
New guy 3rd
Me 2nd
George 1st

Good game to everyone!

I needed this 2nd place.
